Changing Roles

It’s time to take my own advice.

Over the past 24 issues of Cosmetic Packaging & Design, I’ve often written about the necessity of change and why it’s essential in
business and life to meet and embrace different strategies—even when the old ones are still working fairly well.

As a member of the Boomer generation, I’ve reached that time when my children are grown and flown. I am now responsible for no one but myself. There are a million things I’m interested in experiencing, and the realization has come that my energy is no longer boundless. If I’m serious about finding new adventures, it’s time to let go of a position that has challenged me and brought me great satisfaction. As of this editorial, I will step back and become a contributing editor to Cosmetic Packaging & Design. Leah Genuario, who has served as managing editor since January, is your new editor. She can be counted on to bring a fresh perspective, enthusiasm and the kind of energy I had 20 years ago to the task. I hope all of you in the industry will help her and share your knowledge with her as you have with me.

I am extremely fortunate to be able to hand off the day-to-day operations and responsibilities of being the editor and yet retain the role I’ve always loved the most. You will continue to hear from me, and I will continue to research and write about this fascinating beauty industry. I will be calling from the Texas Gulf Coast near Corpus Christi, where I will also get to enjoy being a Grandma and watching the sun set over the water. (Please don’t remind me about heat and hurricanes—no place is perfect!)

Back to being editor for a moment—this is the fourth annual Buyers Guide issue for Cosmetic Packaging & Design and it, too, has gone through some changes. In order to stay current and give our industry better service, Rodman Publishing has taken the process of creating the Buyers Guide directories online. This first year was a combination in which suppliers received mailed forms, but then also received emailed information and were able to update company data online.

As with any first time effort, there were a few glitches, but we think we caught most of them. And, with this system if there are any errors in the print version or are any changes to a company’s information over the course of the next year, you will be able to go into the online Buyers Guide (with a password you can receive from us) and make the necessary changes.

Which brings me back to changes. I’ve had a great time being the editor of CP&D and look forward to my new role.

Thank you for your friendship and support. I look forward to talking to you as a reporter and continuing to learn and write about the beauty packaging business.
